A wedding in Bareilly turned into a night of chaos after the groom and his family allegedly demanded a Brezza car and Rs 20 lakh in cash as dowry just moments before the wedding rituals were to be completed. According to reports, the marriage between Jyoti and Rishabh was fixed nearly eight months ago. The families had already completed all formalities and ceremonies leading up to the wedding. In May, the bride’s family hosted an engagement ceremony at a city hotel, with reports claiming they spent around Rs 3 lakh. During the engagement, the groom was given a gold ring, a chain, and Rs 5 lakh in cash.

Uttar Pradesh police have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against Farman Raza Khan, son of jailed Bareilly-based cleric Maulana Tauqeer Raza, following the recovery of drugs after his car rammed into a state roadways bus late on Tuesday night. The accident occurred on National Highway 24 in the Tilhar area, when Farman’s Verna car collided with a stationary roadways bus from the Sitapur depot. Police said the impact was severe, leaving the car completely damaged and causing both airbags to deploy. Farman, who was driving the car, escaped with minor injuries.

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya had a narrow escape on Thursday when the car he was travelling in collided with a cow near a roadside dhaba in Bareilly while he was returning to the airport after official engagements. According to officials, the incident occurred when a cow suddenly came onto the road in front of the deputy chief minister’s vehicle. The driver immediately applied brakes, preventing a major accident, but the car hit the animal, causing minor damage to the front bumper and a dent to the vehicle. The cow sustained only minor injuries and soon got up and moved away.

Police have detained 12 people in a village in Bareilly district for allegedly offering Namaz at an empty house “without permission”, officials said on Sunday. A video purportedly showing people offering prayers inside the house has surfaced and is being circulated on social media, they said. SP (South) Anshika Verma said police took precautionary action after receiving information from people in Mohammadganj village that a vacant house was allegedly being used as a temporary madrasa for the past several weeks.

A Dalit man in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly was assaulted and humiliated by three local goons for asking to return the money he once lent. The goons allegedly shaved his head, eyebrows, cut his moustache, and smeared mud on his face. In addition to these, the trio also made a video of his humiliation and uploaded it on social media. The incident occurred nearly a month ago. Pappu Diwakar, who was assaulted by the three, had been living in one of the accused, Chandrasen’s house in Bairelly for the last few months. In his complaint to the local police, he stated that Chandrasen borrowed four and a half lakh rupees to purchase a tractor. However, when Diwakar asked Chandrasen to pay the money back, the latter, along with his son Pappu, his friend Godhanlal, and several other associates, started abusing him.
